Teamwork and Leadership
On and Off the Field
Have you taken your temperature lately? If you’ve suffered from World Cup fever over the past couple of weeks, you’re not alone!
Even though the U.S. lost to the Netherlands last weekend, the team’s performance finally proved that we can play soccer at a world-class level.
What’s even more exciting is that our team is young and hungry. As the players mature, the key will be channeling that energy into teamwork and leadership, demonstrating that we have the strength and mental endurance to overcome the physical and emotional challenges it takes to win the Cup!
The U.S. team’s performance also serves as a great lesson for the business world: Challenging times call for teamwork and leadership on and off the field.
Some additional observations …
- A great team isn’t comprised of all A-class players. The greatest teams are also made up of B and C-class players who know how to play along with A-class players and vice versa.
- Every team member should know a company’s goal and buy into the vision.
- The leader’s role is to set that vision into motion and set the team up to win.
- Never lose a game in your head before playing it. Don’t think an “impossible” goal is unachievable.
- Celebrate the small victories. Learn from your losses. And get up tomorrow to fight again.
